May Ann will elaborate on her recent experiences of election observation in Albania and North Macedonia and the importance of supporting election processes to ensure that they comply with international human rights standards.
May Ann Ramsay, has been working to promote human rights and democratisation throughout her career, first in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then in the European Commission. As a Swedish diplomat she was notably posted to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. She has also been employed by that organisation, to ensure that the Member States execute the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. In the European Commission, May Ann has notably supported democratisation initiatives in countries outside of the EU, been Deputy Head of the EU-Commission Representation in Stockholm and for the last 10 years worked as a Senior Expert on asylum policy and legislation in Brussels. Currently she is seconded by the Folke Bernadotte Academy as an election observer to OSCE and EU observer missions.
